3/25/03 So I never got to go take pictures of the blossoms. Instead, my kids and I caught a nasty flu that was going around and have spent the last two weeks recovering. Its one of those flus where you never feel completely over it. Just when you think you're ALMOST done with the misery, the symptoms come back again with a vengance. But I think we're almost well now. Knock on wood. Story time. Last night I found out what happens when you throw an entire box of fabric softener sheets in the wash. Let me tell you, the sheets I washed with them are terribly soft! Maybe even as soft as the Snuggle commercials! Of course I would never do that on purpose though. I'd started the wash and had thrown in the sheets, and was pulling all the pillowcases off the pillows when my son apperantly decided to help out. I don't know how I missed a box floating around in the water, but I did anyway. Fast forward to 45 minutes later when the wash was done. There were little bits of cardboard EVERYWHERE, but they were so shredded up I couldn't tell what they'd come from. I even pulled several pieces out to examine them but they were completely unrecognizable. Usually if I accidentally wash something it comes out wet but still intact. Not this time. I'm just hoping there wasn't any money in that load. Still I didn't figure out what had happened. I threw the clothes in the dryer, wondering where on earth the dryer sheets had gone. The mystery was finally solved when I pulled the linens out and tried to put them on the bed again. About fifty little wadded up dryer sheets came tumbling out of them. Ooops. :-) 3/10/03 There is something so romantic about Spring. When I say "romantic" in this case I mean refreshing and almost magical. You're probably laughing... I'll admit I sound terribly cheesey. But I just LOVE this time of year. I don't know whether its the blossoms or the return of the long lost sunshine or what. Maybe its the temperature. We don't need heaters or air conditioners. We open the windows to let the outdoors in, or relax on the balcony letting the indoors out. The plum and cherry trees are flowering right now. Tomorrow if the weather's as nice as it has been I'll go snap a picture or two to share with you. Hopefully the other apartment tennants won't think I'm taking spy pictures of them or something. They'll probably just think I'm silly. Maybe I am, but if so I don't care. I'm enjoying every minute of it. 2/28/03 The kids and I just came back from a nice ten-day visit with my family. It was a much needed and very relaxing vacation. How I wish we could just move closer so these visits didn't have to be so few and far between! The kids absolutely adore their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. So do I! But the kids missed their daddy.. and I missed him too.. so we had to come back. I certainly didn't miss Las Vegas though.. I'm considering combining my personal page here at tripod with my design page at novapages.com. Then I'd stop trying to get "BIG" projects and instead just have fun with the site and do whatever smaller projects come my way. My business site would get some much needed personality, plus I'd have a place to host my blog without popups. So be watching.. I hope to have the new site up by the end of March. Meanwhile drop me an email if you'd like. I'd love to hear from you! Take care! 2/1/03 How awful to hear about the Columbia's explosion! I remember the Challenger's explosion vividly. I was only seven but the tragedy was etched in my memory forever. That, 9/11, and todays news are among my most traumatic memories. My prayers are with the families and friends of the crew. 2/1/03 This week's been an exciting one! On Wednesday the kids and I were at playgroup, and my husband had just come to pick us up when a two year old girl managed to squeeze past a locked gate and go tumbling into the deep end of a swimming pool. Before most of us even realized what had happened, my husband was running to the rescue. And about the time I realized I needed to do something, he'd already jumped the fence and landed in a belly flop. On the concrete. He missed the pool by a few feet. Nevertheless he was up and running again and managed to get the girl out just seconds after she'd fallen. SuperMan! His arms and ribs hurt a bit from landing on the sidewalk though, and the cell phone kinda drowned... of course he'd do it all again anyway. I asked him if he thought he'd land in the pool when he jumped over the fence (he cleared the fence without even touching it, BTW) and he said no. He didn't THINK at all, he just RAN. We're all glad he did. Granted, the girl's mom had the gate unlocked and was in the pool herself seconds later. We're all just glad the girl is okay. And I'm really proud of my husband. :) 1/28/03 It still feels weird to be typing 03. I've been working alot with my other site the past few weeks and suddenly it dawned on me: I could move THIS site to my paid for, ad free server! Perhaps even change things around a bit to combine the two sites. We'll see. Meanwhile I thought I'd pop on here and say hi. Does anyone read this anyway? ;) By the way, if you happen to need a set of Valentines graphics, I've got your solution right here! I just drew this cupid set the other day. Enjoy. 1/18/03 Well I think I've officially broken all but one of my new years resolutions. But, since that winning resolution is that I'll keep trying with the others even if I do screw up, I'm okay, right? :) These past few weeks have been busy ones. We're busy applying to law schools and trying to figure out what we'll do if we don't make it. I say WE by the way because though my husband will be the one attending, I'll be putting plenty of effort toward the cause, between the kids and the finances and all. Anyway so now we're all applied and we're in kindof a dead state waiting to find out what we'll do. Pretty exciting, eh? In the meantime I've been devoting much of my time towards web projects. My design site, www.novapages.com is tenatively complete, though I'm always finding something to change. Right now the design is set for ANY resolution, even 640x480. So in the larger resolutions there's just tons of white space. It's a very simple site. But simple does download quickly even on slow connections like mine. So if you're ever in the market for a very clean site design you know who to talk to. :) Anyway, I think that's about all the blabbering I can do for the day. Take care! 12/31/02 Farewell 2002! I'm sitting here thinking of the past 5 new years eves. Has my life changed or what??
Now, as though I hadn't done enough blabbering for the evening already, I thought I'd post my new years resolutions.
12/20/02 I'll be HOME for Christmas! As ... lovely (?)... as Las Vegas is I just don't consider it my home yet. So this morning I'm packing our bags, the kids stockings, and yes all those booklets I've been folding. As soon as my husband gets off work today we'll go! It'll be so nice to have a vacation this long too. We'll stay there until after Christmas Day dinner, so I'll be gone for a while. In the meantime, have yourself a merry little Christmas too! (Edited 1-1-03) I forgot to tell you.. the trip was wonderful. I had such a great time seeing my family. We really miss them. 12/11/02 Today I made a bunch of textures for no particular reason. Here's a zipped file that includes some crafty looking weaves, flowers, and snowflakes, plus some cool swirling textures, something that either looks like fancy ceiling tiles or a printed cookie, scales, and some REALLY great clouds. These are grey scale so you can use any color or gradient with them if your graphics program takes textures. Go ahead.. download them, extract them to your textures folder, and have yourself some fun. :) I'll make a page with a tutorial and some examples soon. As for the project I -should- have been working on, well, I'm making some little booklets for my family for christmas. I've already got them copied but I need to bind them now, and considering I'm going to have to fold them all and staple them by hand, it's going to take a while. I'll let you know how they turn out. :) 12/07/02 Tonight we went to the church Christmas party. Or at least fifteen minutes of it anyway. Our toddler couldn't handle the excitement; and daddy and I couldn't handle chasing him as he ran down the halls screaming. Oh well. It was a nice thought anyway. :) 12/5/02 The past few days have been pretty interesting. We found out our TV has been working as a 24/7 two way radio, even when it's off. We discovered this when we heard what sounded like Boomhouer talking through the speaker of the powered down set. We'd heard it before but assumed our downstairs neighbors just liked their TV loud. So we laughed and jokingly asked the TV how it was doing. We never imagined it would reply... so anyway to make a long story short, we went on to have a half hour conversation with some trucker who was driving by. Spooky... My husband brought me roses on Monday and they were just beautiful. I couldn't help but snap a few photos... they're now added to the gallery section. Enjoy! 11/23/02 There's nothing like a long hot bath after a stressful day. Especially when the rest of the family is asleep and I've got a little cookie dough ice cream on hand. :) So it's not a day at the spa, but I got to remember my goals in life beyond keeping the apartment clean and the register justified. It was nice to take a break. 11/11/02 OK, so I've got some great news. I finally got the digital camera I've been oogling over for ages! I'd saved, and resaved, and resaved money from my freelancing projects (see novapages.jkdwebmagic.com), but the money always had to go to one emergency or another. So when my husband surprised me with the camera Saturday morning, I was completely shocked, but even more pleased than I was shocked. So now I'll get to add all kinds of fun stuff to my gallery, as soon as I figure out how to use it. ;) 11/7/02 What's New? I'll tell you what's new: This site! I've been promising to update the old design for quite a while now, but you know how it is: one's own website tends to be their last priority. So here's the updated look anyway. This time I went ahead and put the gallery together right off the bat so I wouldn't forever have a 'coming soon' page. So now that it's up be sure to check it out! I've also made my pages a little less personal so I can go ahead and let my page be known without having to worry. This site is a lot less complicated than my old site. Because I've only put a few pages up, it won't take me long to update them. So hopefully everythign will stay fresh. I hope you like the new design! This, by the way, is the What's New page. It will be a blog of sorts so you don't get tired of the same old message all the time. Anyway, so that's it! Take a look around & let me know what you think. -SuperNovia
